What is LocalBusiness schema?

LocalBusiness schema is Schema.org structured data that identifies a physical or service-area business and can describe its name, type, URL, phone, address, hours, service areas, profiles, image, map, and coordinates.

Google recommends JSON-LD and the most specific LocalBusiness subtype that applies. Every marked-up detail should match visible page content; generated markup should not invent an address, ratings, reviews, coordinates, or services.

What changed in August 2026?The generator launched with 43 business types, day-by-day hours, optional service areas, sameAs profiles, media, maps, coordinates, local downloads, and direct validator links.

Which LocalBusiness fields should you include?

Include fields that identify the business and help a customer. More fields are not automatically better; accurate and visible fields are better.

How do you add LocalBusiness JSON-LD to a website?

Generate the markup, validate it, place it on the page that describes the business or location, and test the deployed URL again.

1. Match the visible page

Before generating schema, correct the business name, contact details, address, hours, service areas, and official profiles on the page.

2. Generate and review

Choose the most specific subtype, fill only accurate fields, then read the JSON-LD instead of copying it blindly.

3. Validate the code

Use Schema.org Validator for general vocabulary and Google Rich Results Test for Google-supported search features.

4. Publish and retest

Add the JSON-LD to the relevant page's HTML, deploy, then validate the live URL. Update the markup when business facts change.

Frequently asked questions about LocalBusiness schema

What is LocalBusiness schema?

LocalBusiness schema is Schema.org structured data that identifies a physical or service-area business and can describe its name, type, URL, phone, address, hours, service areas, profiles, image, map, and coordinates.

Where should LocalBusiness JSON-LD be placed?

Place LocalBusiness JSON-LD on the main page that describes the business or location, usually the home or location page. Keep every marked-up fact consistent with visible page content.

Does valid LocalBusiness schema guarantee a Google rich result?

No. Valid structured data helps machines understand the page, but Google does not guarantee a rich result and can choose a different search appearance.

Should a service-area business invent a public address?

No. Use only a real address that the business is allowed to publish. A service-area business can omit a public street address and provide accurate service areas and contact details instead.
